SIERRA GIGANTA - Baja Kayaking Vacations in the Sea of Cortez
6 days sea kayaking from Loreto, island camping, possible Blue whale encounters

The "Sierra Giganta" are guided Baja kayaking vacations, including 6-days on-the-water, exploring Isla Danzante in the Sea of Cortez, and the spectacular coastline south of the old mission town of Loreto.
The sea around Loreto is home of over a dozen species of whales and marine mammals, including the Blue, Finback, Brides and Minke whales.
Great snorkeling,  opportunities to soak in natural hot springs, and just the right warm-sunny-days make our Sierra Giganta a perfect winter Baja kayaking vacation.

The Sierra Giganta departs from Loreto, Baja California “Sur” (the South state of Baja California, Mexico), and offers the convenience of commercial airline transportation. International flights to Loreto are available from the U.S. departing from Los Angeles, California.
The Sierra Giganta are premium Baja kayaking expeditions, fit for beginners or advanced, and great for those seeking more convenient adventure destinations.

Map of Baja LOCATION: On the eastern coast of Baja, on the Sea of Cortez, about 750 miles south of the border (less than 2 hour flight from Los Angeles USA) you will find the old mission town of Loreto, the starting point for our Sierra Giganta, Baja kayaking expeditions.

TRIP DESCRIPTION: We named these Baja kayaking vacations after the Sierra Giganta mountain range towering above the Sea of Cortez, creating a stunningly beautiful backdrop for the entire expedition.
Sand beaches sculpted by the elements, and colored from a palette of reds, yellows and blues, make each campsite seem more idyllic than the last.
Canyon hikes take us into the coastal mountains to explore the diversity of plant and animal life, while kayaking allows an intimate exploration of the many coves and small islands.
Snorkeling is wonderful. The clear waters of the Sea of Cortez teem with exotically colored fish and the area is visited frequently by large schools of dolphins. We often encounter some of the dozen species of whales that frequent the Sea of Cortez, and with a little luck, maybe a Finback or a Blue whale - the largest of all. GETTING THERE: The "Sierra Giganta" kayaking trip departs from the town of Loreto.
ALSAKA AIRLINES offers daily, direct flights between Los Angeles International airport (LAX), and Loreto airport (LTO).
We recommend making your travel arrangements through the following travel agency: ELIZABETH HOLMES TRAVEL: 1-800-588-8361.
Elizabeth and Sarah are familiar with our trips and they will ensure you the best connections.
(You can also use the volume ticket vendors like Expedia.com, Kayak.com, Orbitz.com, Cheaptickets.com and compare costs)
During the winter/spring season demand is high so, it is important to make reservations as early as possible. Tickets costs around $450 per peson.

Check your luggage with the airline in-person, at least two hours before departure, to eliminate the chances of lost luggage or losing a seat due to over-booking.
When you book your flight from home to Los Angeles allow a few extra hours as a buffer for delays, before your connecting flight to Loreto, especially around holidays.
When scheduling flights on the homeward leg of your itinerary be sure to allow plenty of time between connections between your international and domestic flights as you’ll need to clear immigration and customs upon re-entering the US regardless of your final destination

By Car: From San Diego the approximate driving time to Loreto is 16 hours (you will need to buy Mexcian insurance for your car). The driving time between Cabo and Loreto is six hours (You will need to rent a car from Los Cabos airport).
