Itinerary: Bay of Angels (kayaking trip in the Sea of Cortez)

FIRST STEP: Saturday - Leave your home and fly to San Diego intl. airport. Pick up your rental-car and drive across the border to Ensenada, about 65 miles from the border. This spectacular hour and a half drive, offers breath-taking views of the Pacific Ocean.
La Pinta hotel on you way to the baja kayaking adventure    If you arrive in San Diego late afternoon or evening, we recommend you to stay the night in Ensenada, a fun city with great shopping, and tasty sea-food restaurants.
Downtown Ensenada offers a choice of quaint, little hotels within walking distance from shops and restaurants.
We suggest "La Pinta" a chain of a few beautiful Spanish style hotels along Baja, offering convenient locations for your itinerary planning.

If you'd rather drive past Ensenada that day, here are more hotel locations:
-The second La Pinta hotel is just past San Quintin on the Pacific beach, 115 miles from Ensenada, about half-way between San Diego and the Bay of Angels.
-The third La Pinta is in Catavina, located in a magnificent granite desert 110 miles from San Quintin. From Catavina to the Bay of Angeles there are 100 miles left.
For reservations call La Pinta: 800-800-9632, or visit their web site: www.lapintahotels.com to find out about their multi-day specials and coupons.

Day 1. Arrival; Leave Ensenada in the morning. Traveling through Baja’s magnificent landscape with unusual vegetation like giant Saguaro cactus, Boojum and Elephant trees, is an inspiring way to begin your adventure vacation. On your way you’ll be able to stop at villages and buy fresh tortillas and fruit for your lunch.
As you drive the last few miles towards the Bay of Angeles, the Sea of Cortez and the offshore islands explode into view; This is one of the most spectacular sea kayaking spot in all of Baja.
Miramar staff will greet you at your hotel in Bahia de LA.

Map of Bahia De Los Angeles - Baja California Day 2. After breakfast we'll load up our kayaks, gear and supplies and drive to Punta La Gringa. But before we start paddling, your expert guides will teach you the basic sea kayaking skills. A comfortable level of experience is achieved without difficulty.
We'll launch our kayaks and paddle to Isla Coronado. After setting up camp we’ll spend the rest of the day hiking, snorkeling, or just kicking back.

Day 3. Wake up with the sunrise and paddle through the fresh morning air, circumnavigating the north side of Coronado. After lunch keep your cameras ready, the following stretch is a prime area for whale spotting. Following the east shore we'll arrive at our second camp site.

Day 4. Leaving behind the southern point of Coronado with its frigate bird roosting site, we pass by Isla Calavera in hopes of finding the playful seal colony at home. Then continue on to our next lunch stop is on Isla Pata. After the break our watery way winds through a picturesque clear water channel to reach the most favorite island and our home for the night, Isla Ventana.

Day 5. Today we circumnavigate Ventana and paddle by its giant natural rock arch. Later we'll head towards the village and land in front of Guillermo's Restaurant to kick back and relax over quesadillas and margaritas. Tonight we sleep at the hotel in town.

Day 6. Departure; After breakfast it’s time to say good-bye to Bahia and head back to San Diego; Or extend your vacation and explore other parts of Baja on your own.
